On the morning of May 29th, the launching ceremony of the China-Portugal Joint Laboratory of Cultural Heritage Conservation Science Belt and Road InitiativeCPLOCH and the academic seminar on the conservation of historical cities along the Silk Road were held in Xi'an, Shaanxi Province, at the School of Architecture of Chang'an University. Wu Yongfa, Director of the CPLOCH, Dean of School of Architecture, Soochow University, Hou Quanhua, Dean of CHD School of Architecture, Professor Ren Yunying and Associate Professor Gao Yuan of School of Architecture, Xi'an University of Architecture and Technology, representatives of the CPLOCH. The meeting was attended by Professor Quan Dongji and Associate Professor Fan Shaoyin from the School of Urban and Environmental Studies of Northwestern University, Vice President Yin Hongcheng and Senior Engineer Liu Chunkai from Xi'an Urban Planning and Design Institute, experts and scholars in the field of cultural heritage protection, and representatives of teachers and students from the School of Architecture of CHD through a combination of online and offline methods. The meeting was hosted by Wu Lian, director of the CPLOCH and professor of CHD School of Architecture.

 

During the meeting, Wu Yongfa expressed his warm congratulations to the CPLOCH, which was established at CHD. He pointed out that the laboratory adheres to the principles of common construction and sharing, demand-oriented, capacity building, demonstration, and leading, facing the national strategy and the demand for scientific and technological cooperation in the Belt and Road Initiative , based on the frontier and key technologies in the field of cultural heritage protection, combining new technological advances in cross-cutting areas, integrating new concepts and ideas in humanities and arts, gathering The research base in Xi'an is expected to achieve fruitful research results.

 

Hou Quanhua introduced the achievements made by CHD in recent years in the protection of historical and cultural cities and traditional villages in Northwest China, the upgrading of archaeological site parks, architectural heritage mapping, and the protection and utilization of large sites, and the digital restoration of cultural heritage. He said that the scientific research advantages and characteristics of CHD in the three major industry fields of transportation, land resources, and urban and rural construction will provide more new propositions and methods for cultural heritage protection in urban and rural construction. He emphasized that the establishment of CPLOCH will further promote the exchange and cooperation among universities, research institutes, and design enterprises in cultural heritage research along the Silk Road and promote the development of cultural heritage protection along the Belt and Road.
