President Li Shutao Led a Delegation to the UK and Ireland

From December 8 to 14, President Li Shutao led a delegation to the United Kingdom and Ireland for exchange and visit. During the visits, the delegation visited multiple high-level universities and renowned corporate R&D institutions in both countries, reaching a number of consensuses on talent cultivation, scientific research collaboration, and university-enterprise cooperation.

During the visit to Brunel University of London, the delegation held in-depth discussions with President Andrew Jones, Vice-Chancellor Trevor Hoey, and other university officials on topics including the innovation of undergraduate joint training models, the establishment of regular teacher-student exchange mechanisms, and collaborative research in key fields. High-level consensus was reached on national public-funded joint training programs, 3+1 bachelor-master dual-degree programs, and short-term student exchanges, laying a solid foundation for practical cooperation between the two universities in the follow-up. Prior to the meeting, the delegation also conducted an on-site visit to the Brunel Centre for Advanced Solidification Technology (BCAST).


The Visit to Brunel University of London, London

At Heriot-Watt University, the delegation held talks with President Richard A. Williams, Chief Operating Officer Steve McLaughlin, Vice-Principal (International and Partnerships) Mark Biggs, and other representatives. Discussions focused on advancing Sino-foreign cooperative education, joint doctoral training, and international scientific research cooperation between the two universities. Significant progress was made on the undergraduate-level Sino-foreign cooperative education program in Building Environment and Energy Application Engineering, pushing bilateral cooperation to deeper levels and broader areas.


The Visit to Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh

At University College Dublin (UCD) in Ireland, the two sides convened the 2025 Joint Management Committee Meeting of the Chang’an-Dublin International College of Transportation. President and Joint Management Committee Deputy Director Orla Feely, Vice-President and Joint Management Committee Member Dolores O’Riordan, and other officials of UCD attended the meeting. Afterward, the delegation visited UCD’s Advanced Materials Manufacturing Laboratory and Technology Incubation and Transfer Centre, holding special exchanges with relevant responsible persons on laboratory construction and achievement transformation.


The Visit to University College Dublin, Ireland

During the visit, the delegation also visited Huawei’s Dublin European R&D Centre and the Edinburgh Centre for Robotics. In-depth negotiations were conducted on university-enterprise joint talent cultivation, the expansion of student internship and training bases, and cooperation in entrepreneurship incubation. Additionally, the delegation hosted three overseas talent recruitment seminars in London, Edinburgh, and Dublin, attracting nearly 200 young scholars, and paid a friendly visit to local alumni of Chang’an university, building bridges for talent return and alumni connection.
