It officially became independent in May 2018 and was approved as a key Marxism college in Shaanxi Province in June 2018. The college has a comprehensive office, an academic office, a student work office, and a library and information room. It also has the Shaanxi Provincial Cultural Industry Talent Training Base jointly established by the Shaanxi Provincial Department of Culture and Chang'an University. The college's Party Committee is the third batch of benchmarking departments for party building and innovation and entrepreneurship in Shaanxi universities. The college has the first batch of double leaders teacher party branch secretary studios in national universities, the second batch of double leaders teacher party branch secretary studios in Shaanxi Province, the network ideological and political theory teaching team of the Ministry of Education, and has been awarded the title of advanced grassroots party organization by the Education Work Committee of the Shaanxi Provincial Party Committee, the Shaanxi Provincial Teacher Morality Demonstration Team, the benchmarking department for league building in universities across the province, and the May 1st Women's Pacesetter Post in the education, science, culture, health, and sports system of Shaanxi Province.

The college currently has more than 90 faculty members and over 80 full-time teachers, who are responsible for the ideological and political theory courses of the entire school. Among them, there is one expert who enjoys special allowance from the State Council; one young talent in the field of propaganda, ideology and culture who is selected as one of the Four Batches by the Propaganda Department of the CPC Central Committee; two winners of the National Excellent Young and Middle-aged Ideological and Political Theory Teachers Selection and Funding Plan by the Ministry of Education; four nominees for the annual influence of ideological and political theory courses nationwide; one leading talent in the field of philosophy, social sciences, culture and art in Shaanxi Province; one top-notch young talent in Shaanxi Province; one talent in the Six Batches plan in Shaanxi Province; two winners of the Support Plan for Young Talents in Humanities and Social Sciences in Shaanxi Universities; one outstanding Communist Party member in Shaanxi Province; one member of the Shaanxi Provincial Political Consultative Conference; three people's congress representatives and political consultative conference members at the city and county (district) levels; eight communication review experts for the National Social Science Fund; and one deputy director of the Shaanxi Provincial Cultural Development Committee.

The college began to enroll undergraduate students in the major of Ideological and Political Education in 1988. Currently, this major is a first-class major in Shaanxi Province. At the same time, it has doctoral degree authorization points for secondary disciplines of Environment and Social Development and Policy Science and Management Innovation, master's degree authorization points for primary disciplines of Marxist Theory (including Basic Principles of Marxism, Sinicization of Marxism, Ideological and Political Education, Basic Issues of Modern Chinese History, and History of the Communist Party of China), and master's degree authorization points for primary disciplines of Philosophy (including Marxist Philosophy, Chinese Philosophy, Philosophy of Science and Technology, and Aesthetics). It also has the qualification to train master's degree students in the major of Ideological and Political Education for college teachers.

The college adheres to the principle of taking discipline construction and teaching and research as the foundation, taking the construction of famous teacher studios as the carrier, taking the demonstration classroom of famous teachers as the guidance, taking improving the teaching level of ideological and political theory courses as the starting point, and taking improving the ideological and political theory literacy of college students as the purpose, to comprehensively promote the ideological and political education work of college students. In recent years, one person has won the special award and three people have won the second prize in the National Ideological and Political Theory Teaching Exhibition Activity; one person has been awarded the Teaching Master in Shaanxi Province; 15 people have been awarded the Teaching Pacesetter and 12 people have been awarded the Teaching Expert in the Shaanxi Ideological and Political Theory Teaching Exhibition Activity; 16 people have been awarded other teaching competitions above the provincial level; two National Teaching Achievement Awards and 12 Provincial Teaching Achievement Awards; one Excellent Class awarded by the Ministry of Education, and 19 first-class courses, quality courses, Three-in-One courses, and characteristic courses above the provincial level.

In the past five years, the college has undertaken more than 480 scientific research projects at all levels, including 23 projects funded by the National Social Science Fund of China (including 1 key project), 18 projects related to the Ministry of Education, and more than 300 projects at or above the provincial and ministerial level. It has published more than 500 academic papers in academic journals such as Marxism Research, Philosophy Research, and Research on the History of the Communist Party of China, including more than 180 papers from CSSCI, Peking University Core Journals, etc. It has 12 scientific research platforms at or above the provincial and ministerial level, published 55 academic monographs (textbooks), and won 53 awards at or above the departmental level, such as the Excellent Achievement Award in Philosophy and Social Sciences of Shaanxi Province and the Excellent Achievement Award in Philosophy and Social Sciences of Xi'an City. The college attaches great importance to academic exchanges, hosting 26 high-level academic conferences at home and abroad, with more than 520 teachers participating in high-level academic conferences at home and abroad, and more than 490 external theoretical lectures.

In the future development, the college will always adhere to the basic idea of openness in running the college, with the main tasks of strengthening the teaching of ideological and political theory courses, building a teaching base for cultivating qualified talents; strengthening the innovation of Marxist theory, building a scientific research highland for launching academic excellence; strengthening the propaganda of Marxist theory, building an ideological position leading social progress. The basic principles are holding high the banner, holding fast to the position, leading the trend, and cultivating virtue and talents. The development path is led by discipline construction, based on scientific research, supported by team building, centered on teaching reform, and guaranteed by institutional improvement. On the basis of scale control and connotation development, the college will realize the transformation from teaching-oriented to teaching and research-oriented, and strive to build the college into a strong position for Marxist theory teaching, research, propaganda, and talent cultivation.
