Introduction

The School of Energy and Electrical Engineering is a secondary school at Chang'an University dedicated to teaching and research in energy-related disciplines and programs.

A Long History of Education and a Profound Academic Heritage

The school boasts a long history of operation and a profound academic foundation. The school currently comprises two first-level disciplines: Power Engineering and Engineering Thermophysics, and Electrical Engineering. The predecessor of the Power Engineering and Engineering Thermophysics discipline can be traced back to the Engine Laboratory established in 1951 at the Northwest Traffic School. In 1978, the Engine Teaching and Research Section was established at Xi'an Highway College. In 1986, an achievement led by Professor Bian Yaozhang, a key academic leader of the discipline, won the Second Prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award. In 1998, the university was approved to establish a master's program in Power Machinery and Engineering. In 2005, the undergraduate program in Thermal Energy and Power Engineering began to enroll students. In 2006, the university was approved to establish the first-level master's program in Power Engineering and Engineering Thermophysics. In 2011, the Energy and Power Engineering program was designated as a national characteristic specialty. In 2022, the undergraduate program in Energy and Power Engineering was approved as a national first-class program.

The predecessor of the Electrical Engineering discipline can be traced back to the Electric Machines and Electric Appliances program, launched in 1977 at Xi'an Highway College, and the Building Electrical Technology program, launched in 1987 at the Northwest Institute of Architectural Engineering. In 1996, it was renamed Electrical Engineering and Automation. In 2000, after the merger and establishment of Chang'an University, the Department of Electrical Engineering was founded. In 2006, the university was approved to launch the Building Facilities Intelligent Technology program. In 2008, the Electrical Engineering and Automation program was recognized as a Shaanxi Provincial Characteristic Specialty. In 2016, the Building Facilities Intelligent Technology program was merged into the Electrical Engineering and Automation program. In 2018, the university was approved to establish the first-level master's program in Electrical Engineering. In 2022, the Electrical Engineering program was approved as a national first-class program.

A Strong and Well-Structured Faculty

The school boasts a strong and well-structured faculty. The school currently has 93 faculty members, including 13 professors, 35 associate professors, 1 senior engineer, and 3 associate senior engineers. There are 21 doctoral supervisors (including international doctoral supervisors) and 59 master's supervisors. The faculty includes 5 “provincial and ministerial-level talents”, 3 “Chang'an Scholars”, and 4 “Young Talents of Chang'an University”. Two faculty members were named to the world's top 2% scientists. The school currently hosts five high-level teams, including a Shaanxi Provincial Teaching Team, a Shaanxi Provincial Scientific and Technological Innovation Team, a Shaanxi Provincial Youth Innovation Team, and a Shaanxi Qin Chuangyuan Scientist + Engineer Team. The school is committed to building a high-quality teaching team characterized by noble ethics, professional excellence, a rational structure, and vibrant energy.

Prominent Disciplinary Advantages and a Comprehensive Education System

The school features prominent disciplinary advantages and a comprehensive education system. Leveraging the world-class discipline of Transportation Engineering, the school focuses on its two first-level disciplines (Power Engineering and Engineering Thermophysics, Electrical Engineering) to cultivate high-caliber, innovative talent and produce high-level scientific research achievements in fields such as transportation-energy integration and advanced transportation power. It currently offers a doctoral program in the secondary discipline (New Energy and Power Engineering), two first-level master's programs (Power Engineering and Engineering Thermophysics, Electrical Engineering), and a professional master's degree program (Energy and Power). The school has three undergraduate programs (Energy and Power Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Automation, and New Energy Science and Engineering). Among them, Energy and Power Engineering and Electrical Engineering and Automation have been selected as national first-class undergraduate program construction sites. The school has a complete educational system, offering bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees. The school has established high-level teaching and research platforms, such as the “Shaanxi Provincial Key Laboratory of New Transportation Energy and Automotive Energy Saving, Chang'an University”; the “Shaanxi Provincial Virtual Simulation Experimental Teaching Center for Energy Conservation and New Energy Vehicles”; the “Discipline Innovation and Talent Introduction Base for Transportation-Energy-Information Multi-Network Integration and Self-Sufficient Technology”; the “Shaanxi Provincial Technology and Equipment Innovation Center of Methanol Fuel”; and the “Chang'an University-Shaanxi Automobile Group Shaanxi Provincial Joint Graduate Training Demonstration Workstation”.

A Moderate Scale of Operation and a Continuous Stream of Outstanding Talent

With a moderate scale of operation, the school has produced a continuous stream of outstanding talent. The school currently has 1,568 enrolled students, including 1,229 undergraduates, 291 postgraduates, and 48 international students. Adhering to a student-centered philosophy, the school always prioritizes the quality of talent cultivation. Its students have won numerous awards in various academic and technological competitions. The student employment rate ranks among the highest at the university, with excellent employment levels and quality.
