Dr. Mark Levin, From Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, visited CHD

On the morning of October 29, 2018, the former Director of the Environment Department of Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, the first director of the China-US Clean Energy Center (CERC-BEE), and the member of the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Dr. Mark Levin One line was invited to visit our school. Sha Aimin, deputy secretary of the school party committee, met with the visitors in the VIP room of the Academic Exchange Center. The relevant officials from the International Office, the Highway College and the School of Architecture accompanied the meeting.


Deputy Secretary Sha Aimin welcomed Dr. Mark Levin's visit and briefly introduced the school's development history, campus distribution, academic characteristics and personnel training. He pointed out that our school has continuously exerted the characteristics of the industry for many years, and has trained a large number of professional and technical talents and industry management talents for the transportation field. The teachers, students and alumni of the school presided over or participated in the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, the Hangzhou Bay Bridge, the Zhongnanshan Tunnel and many others. Major engineering construction projects in the field of national infrastructure construction have also played an important role. He said that the contribution of the IPCC in the international community is obvious to all. Chang'an University has also done a lot of related work and research in the fields of climate change and energy environment. I hope that the visit of Dr. Mark Levin and his entourage will open the two sides in relevant fields. Cooperation and exchange.


Dr. Mark Levin expressed his gratitude to the hospital for its hospitality and expressed his appreciation for the contribution made by the University in the field of infrastructure construction. He believes that our school has a solid research foundation for energy utilization in the transportation sector, and its achievements are commendable, and expressed its willingness to cooperate in research on road traffic emissions, low-carbon buildings, and water environment. He said that he is very willing to deepen exchanges with relevant disciplines of our school to jointly promote cooperation in related fields, learn from each other and seek common development.

After the meeting, Dr. Mark Levin gave a lecture entitled “Climate Change Problems You Want to Know But Can't Ask” to the teachers and students of our school, and went to the School of Transportation and related laboratories at the Lishui Campus.


mark. Dr. Levin received his bachelor's degree from Princeton University and his Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of California at Berkeley. He and the other members of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPPC) shared the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize for writing the Fourth Climate Change Assessment Report. He has held senior leadership roles in research and management at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) and has won numerous awards for his work. In 1988, he founded the China Energy Group at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, which works closely with Chinese scientists, policy analysts, and government officials to design energy-saving programs and policies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. He has served on the boards of nine prominent non-profit organizations in the field and on the editorial boards of four major international journals.
